A Note: Due to some little difficulties, I’ve delayed quite a bit in posting this, hoping to include some photos at the same time. I decided that I’ve delayed enough, but don’t worry, photos will be up soon!
Watercolors, ceramics, and oils, oh my! I’ve been playing in the studio again. In the last few weeks I’ve struggled to focus when it comes to writing. I blame the heat. Summer weather keeps me indoors with all my restless energy, and sitting at my desk fidgeting isn’t productive in any direction. I’ve needed to move (a lot) while still engaging in the creative process (to keep my mind sharp, of course). And while the natural flights of the human mind are from hope to hope, the natural flights of the hyperactive artist’s hand are from medium to medium.
Of course, my art studio, which also happens to our utility room, was a total mess from some recent plumbing adventures, but the need to create is a better catalyst to housecleaning than anything else I know. It certainly wasn’t long before I had enough of a space carved out for working on an oil painting, and the refreshed vigor I had from the work soon powered me into a full cleanup and reorganization of the room. Since the room itself isn’t fully finished yet, the studio setup is also a work in progress. As is my way, however, I’ve had my cup runneth over with inspiration; this state of flux is my font.
My skills in the visual arts are inexpert, to say the least. I’ve had no extensive formal training, nor have I consistently applied myself in disciplined study on my own. Even so, I love to make art in any form, and that’s good enough for me. And with all this energy, I’ve been bouncing around my studio and jumping into whatever catches my attention. The results so far: Two oil color paintings in progress, a new ceramics setup, a little hand built terracotta pot, and a lot of water color sketches. I can’t be stopped! I hope my parents’ refrigerator is ready for this.
